The everyday section: the joist under a deck, the upright in a partition, the post in a fence that separates rather than restrains. Light enough that one person carries a full length, strong enough to be the frame of the job.
Under a deck it is the part nobody ever inspects again – which is exactly why it should not be timber. A joist sits in shade, in still air, often a few centimetres above damp ground, and it rots from underneath long before the deck surface shows anything. Solid recycled polyolefin has nothing to rot.
Cut it with an ordinary saw, fix it with ordinary screws, pre-drill for anything structural. There is no grain, so it does not split along one. Set in concrete or on a post anchor – the material does not care which, because there is nothing at ground level for rot to start on. That is where a timber post always fails first: the twenty centimetres just below the surface.
Nothing to oil. Nothing to sand. Nothing to paint. No board to swap out after the third winter, and no call-back from your client about a soft plank or a splinter. That is the whole case against timber: the purchase price is not the cost – fifteen years of upkeep is.

The colour settles after roughly 45-60 days of UV exposure. A recycled product may show small differences in shade and weight between batches. This does not affect how it performs.

As a decking joist, allow about 2 running metres per square metre of deck, plus around 10% for cuts. For fencing, spacing depends on the height and on what the fence has to hold – send us the running length and we will do the take-off with you.
