Panel fence made of recycled plastic

What this fence is for

A timber fence looks good for two seasons. After that it is washing, sanding and painting, year after year – and the bottom boards at ground level start to rot, so you replace them one at a time until the fence turns patchy.

The Ecoplank panel fence takes the maintenance out instead of scheduling it. The infill is solid recycled polyolefin: it does not absorb water, it does not rot, insects are not interested, and the colour runs through the full thickness – there is no coating to flake off.

The frame is steel: galvanised, powder coated posts with a vertical reinforcing profile every three boards. Even a long, tall run stays perfectly plumb for years – which is the difference between a fence that looks professionally built and one that starts to wave after a season.

What you get

Not included: the wall base or foundation (built to normal building practice), gates and wickets (specified separately, same colour), transport (quoted together with the goods).

It arrives to be assembled, not as finished panels. That way every bay is set to the ground on site, instead of hunting for a slope that fits a ready-made panel.

Heights, colours and module

The colour is in the material, not on it. A scratch is the same colour as the rest of the board.

On site

You build it with ordinary woodworking tools. No welding, no specialist kit.

Tools: cordless driver, spirit level, rubber mallet, wood saw or jigsaw, socket wrench, tape measure.

Before you start: install between +5 and +25 C. Leave the expansion gaps – never drive the boards home tight. The material moves with temperature and needs the room.

Cutting: use a wood saw, work slowly and take breaks. Cutting too fast heats the material and melts it.

1. Set out and anchor the posts – space the galvanised posts to the module, bolt the base plates to the wall base or foundation, check plumb and level.
2. Slide in the first board – feed the TG32 board horizontally into the post channels and level it carefully. It is the base the whole panel sits on.
3. Stack the rest – board onto tongue and groove, tapped gently with a rubber mallet. Keep the expansion gap.
4. Reinforce every three boards – fit the vertical steel profile, fixed to the base plate. That is what keeps a long bay plumb.
5. Close the top – fit the top cap and connector. It hides the post joint and finishes the panel.
6. Done – no maintenance. Care is a wash with water.

What it costs you after it is installed

You buy this fence once. The rest costs nothing.

• Nothing to paint. No coating means no coating to renew.
• Nothing to impregnate. The material does not take up water, so there is nothing to protect.
• No board to swap out after a few seasons – the boards at ground level do not rot.
• Care is a wash with water, if you decide it needs one at all.

Treated timber is cheaper on day one. After fifteen years it costs more than twice as much – and that is before the weekends you spend on it.
